Fila Softies
Fila was born in 1911 in the Italian town of Biella, the heart of the European textile industry, as a family knitting workshop.
It became a global icon only sixty years later, when it bet on sport: tennis polo shirts and outfits in which Björn Borg shone in the 1970s brought Italian elegance to the courts and gave the brand an identity it lives on to this day.
The red-and-blue logo on a white ground became shorthand for an era when sport had style and athletes were fashion icons without stylists.
The next chapter was written by the street: hip hop and British casual culture claimed Fila for themselves in the 1980s and 1990s, and retro models from the archive have been returning regularly as urban classics ever since.
Fila is a textbook case of a brand whose archive is more valuable than most new releases on the market: a hundred years of history means a bottomless well of silhouettes that have already proved themselves.
Italian pedigree, sporting credentials, streetwear present.
Heritage that doesn't need to be invented, because it happened.
