Kaala
Kaala was founded by designers and yoginis Carolin van Eupen and Regina Winther, who kept running into the same problem on the mat: there was no good-looking yet practical way to carry a yoga mat.
Either a technical strap with no flair, or a pretty bag the mat wouldn't fit into.
The Hamburg brand has therefore been sewing bags, rucksacks and slings designed around the mat since 2020: expandable volumes, thought-through attachments, pockets for the studio and the office, a minimalist look that works off the mat too.
The material reasoning matches today's standards: recycled nylon from industrial waste for the body of the bags, linings from recycled PET bottles.
Kaala is a textbook story of a product born from a specific personal discomfort, which is the best possible origin: the founders were the first customers, and it shows in every detail you would only think of yourself after a year of carrying.
