WeSC Softies
WeSC, in full We are the Superlative Conspiracy, grew out of the Stockholm skateboard and snowboard underground in the late 1990s.
The name is a manifesto: the conspiracy of those who believe you can live and dress differently from the catalogue.
From the start the brand built on a network of so-called intellectual slackers — artists, musicians and riders who wore and spread it long before marketing coined the word influencer.
The Scandinavian origin gave streetwear a different diction from what it knew from California: cleaner cuts, more restrained graphics, an ironic distance from its own scene and an emphasis on wearability that let pieces work in school and in the club.
WeSC lived through a great era of global expansion and tougher chapters that come with the life of independent brands, but its place in the history of European streetwear is beyond dispute: it was there when skate culture was learning to speak European.
Stockholm attitude: confidence without shouting, conspiracy without secrecy.
